Large Labrador Small Pet Door Challenge.
We had to solve the mystery of Ruby the Labrador mysteriously greeting us from inside the house. Sometimes when we go out we need to lock the dogs outside in the courtyard. However often when we arrive home Ruby girl greets us – from the inside – looking very pleased with herself.
We had a small pet door which the cat and our small Poodle dog Roland could use – but could a large chocolate Labrador really slinky herself down to fit through? We set up some cameras on tripods – both inside and outside. Then we went out.
We were amazed to see on film just what went on when the humans were out. Dogs have unique problem solving skills – as Labrador Ruby will show us all. Now that we know what she’s up to we will make sure the pet door is closed off to creatures both large and small – we don’t want any back problems or vet’s bills. It’s always good to be aware of your pet’s unique ways and natural habits – but of course it’s always the ‘safety first’ rule.
We could invest in a larger pet door but the adult size of the Labrador weighs in at 55-70lb (25-32kgs) and stands at 22-24″ (56-61cm) – really the size of a small human so it defeats the purpose of securely locking the house.
Check out our video and watch as Ruby Labrador performs her incredible feat. Do you have a dog who also does this?
